eBay takes its first step in Romanian market

eBay, the biggest online auction and shopping website takes its first step in the Romanian market through mobile.de webpage available in Romanian language version on www.mobile.ro.

Mobile.ro is a German vehicle marketplace online, its parent company being mobile.international GmbH, a marketplace founded in 1995 with head office in Berlin.

The Americal Internet company eBay bought in 2004 mobile.de website for 152 million dollars.

According to mobile.ro, users can find adds on used and new vehicles, namely cars, motorhomes, motorcycles and commercial vehicles. The company’ services designed to professional car distributors and private clients.

In Romania, the major portal of online auction is Okazii.ro, managed by Netbridge Investments.

“95% of the online auctions in Romania are conducted on Okazii.ro platform. Okazii.ro is focusing on launching new facilities and upgrading online transactions in Romania. As proof, the most recent event – re-launching the website on September 16 is strengthening our leading position in the market and reiterates our orientation towards the users,” Cristian Darie, project manager at Okazii.ro stated for Wall-Street.

Launching mobile.de portal is an important step in the evolution of ecommerce in Romania, Okazii.ro’s representative added.

“Electronic commerce in Romania is developing. The entry of a real competitor in the market leads to the need of performance and to development of the field. Electronic commerce in Romania will have much to gain from a real competition on the market,” Cristian Darie explained.

eBay.com is the most important auction and shopping website. The portal was inaugurated in San Jose, California in September 1995 by computer programmer Pierre Omidyar as part of a larger personal site that included, among other things, Omidyar's own tongue-in-cheek tribute to the Ebola virus. The very first item sold on eBay was a broken laser pointer for 14.83 US dollars.
