Biggest GSM retailers on Romanian market don’t feel the shivers of financial crisis, but face mounting sales and a fast-paced consolidation of the sector.
GSM grows at 5-10% pace monthly

The sale of GSM products and services marked a 5-10% monthly advance and the growth will keep its upside trend next year.

“On short-term, it is unlikely that the sales in GSM retail industry in Romania will be affected by global crisis. The market increased by 5-10% monthly from last year’s similar interval, and I forecast similar trend in the following period. Moreover, I believe that in 2009, the sale of handheld devices, obviously more moderate from 2008” said Constantin Soare (photo), retail director of Internity chain.

According to him, in 2010, Romania will line up to Western Europe’s market trend in terms of annual evolution of sales.

“Considering the current evolution, market’s state, and clients’ consumption habits, we definitely expect a profitable month of December,” Constantin Soare added.

Representatives of Say think the impact of financial crisis will hit the entire retail industry.
“Sales in Say chain did not fall in the last period, but on the contrary, they follow the upward path and we hope to continue in this manner, considering that the forthcoming winter holidays are a flourishing period both for us and for all businesses in retail sector.

Germanos did not see any significant bounces in sales on any of the segment it operates on.

“There is a slight setback of sales, but we see it as a normal fact, a natural response of the market pending to the Christmas’s bargains and discounts, this being the make season for the majority of retailers, telecom segment included”, said Adelina Pasat, marketing manager at Germanos Telecom Romania.

Germanos’ representative estimates that the impact of economic crisis will be milder than in other European countries, at least as far as the telecom market is concerned.

Next year, the telecom market will face a fast consolidation, and economic crisis will dent businesses’ expansion.
