Rockmedia invests 200,000 euro in iKonect.ro business-oriented social networking site

Rockmedia Network publisher, held by businessman Rachad El Jisr, will invest roughly 200,000 euro by the end-2009, in iKonect.ro project, the first business-oriented social networking site in Romania, in partnership with interactive agency, MB Dragan.

The company said it would make improvements in the application and business, marketing and staff costs, according to Mihai Dragan (photo), managing director of MB Dragan told Wall-Street.

“The development of iKonect project lasted 4 months. In this period, we tried to understand the way a Romanian businessman could benefit from the advantages of a business community. Furthermore, we had to come up with a friendly but business design and features to help the growth of the hub”, Mihai Dragan added.

The exclusive beta phase will end in nearly three months, in order to allow the builders to monitor the website, to review possible changes, suggestions of the members and improvements in all levels, according to Dragan.

“However, the project will not idle in this point. We will work together with Rockmedia for the next 12 months in an attempt to improve the service and to add a set of new applications and features that will make the site more relevant and engaging, different from international business social networking sites, such as LinkedIn”, said Mihai Dragan.

Launched on January 8, the business hub iKonect had, after only one day since its debut, 300 users, aiming to reach 100,000 users, both natural persons and companies.

“iKonect wants to be the place for businessmen who want a broader visibility in the online environment, interested in meeting possible business partners or employees. By adding the new component designed for companies, they become active members of the community”, Dragan added.

For the first version of the social networking site, two types of accounts are active- one is designed for members that allows browsing through the community, interacting with business people by using various tools, and also an account specially created for companies – corporate account – that gives them the possibility of leading an online conversation, where there were only passive entities until recently.

Rockmedia wants to be a creative hub for internet related projects. Founded in early 2008, RockMedia has a team of 50 professionals and over 10 projects under construction, such as www.ikonect.ro, www.a50.ro, www.bizcampus.ro, www.afloo.ro.
