The number of completed new homes dropped by over 300 in Q1 2009, from prior-year period, down to 10,595 homes delivered, according to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics.
The downward trend in the volume of housing units supplied was more acute in central regions of the country, where 672 fewer dwellings were delivered when compared with first quarter last year, but also in the north-western regions where the total inventory shrank by 593.
In north-eastern regions, 567 more new homes were delivered and in southern country, 453 more.
By residence areas, the analysis of new home construction shows a reversal of their shares in first quarter 2009 from prior-year period.
In first quarter this year, as much as 50.8% of the completed new homes were built in the urban areas, unlike first quarter 2008, when the majority of new housing units were built in the rural areas, namely 52.9%.
