The EUR/RON benchmark rate settled by the National Bank of Romania climbed 0.17 percent to 4.2442 lei per euro, and touched a seven-week high, as the national currency followed the regional flow at debut in thin trade, NewsIn informs.
NBR reported an exchange rate of 4.2372 lei per euro yesterday.
Today's level was last exceeded on July 17, when the central bank showed a benchmark exchange rate of 4.2443 lei per euro.
The euro was traded for 4.2375 lei at rising bell and soon jumped to 4.25. At 1:10 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.2484 lei and selling it for 4.2496 lei.
In the region, the Hungarian forint slipped from 274.5 to 276 versus the euro and then came back to the level on opening, while the Polish zloty fell from 4.1340 to 4.1540 over the single European currency, but strengthened to 4.1440 afterwards.
For the U.S. dollar, NBR’s exchange rate lowered 0.45 percent to 2.9673 lei per dollar, from 2.9807 in the previous session.
