The number of jobless increased in September by 23,467 month-on-month, up to a total of 625,140, the highest number of the last 5 years and five months, while unemployment rate soared to 6.9%, according to data provided by the state labor agency (ANOFM).
The number of unemployed increased in September for the 15th successive month to a level untouched since April 2004. Unemployment rate climbed to 6.9% in September from 6.6% a month earlier. In the year-ago period, jobless rate hovered near 3.9%.
The biggest rates were observed in Mehedinti county (12.8%), Vaslui (12.7%) and the lowest rates in Bucharest (2%) and Ilfov (2.1%).
Of the total number of unemployed, 341,941 receive unemployment benefits, while 283,199 don’t receive any state benefits. Jobless women account for 44% (276,444) of total number of unemployed. Unemployment rate among women stood at 6.5% in the period under review.
