World’s biggest cement maker Lafarge recorded a 34.4% decline in sales for its operations in Romania for the nine months ending September 30 year-on-year, the company said in its quarterly financial report.
The company expects a 28-30% contraction of domestic cement market this year, as CEE outlooks point to a 22-24% decline.
Of all the countries in Central and Eastern Europe where the cement maker runs operations, Romania finished with the poorest score in terms of sales in the first nine months, followed by Russia (-24.2%), Serbia (-23.3%) and Poland (-14%).
In the first half, Lafarge Romania suffered a 39.7% decline in sales, as Lafarge Cement recorded sales of €370 million in 2008 and a net profit margin of 44.2%, being one of the most profitable companies in the economy.
Together with HeidlebergCement and Holcim, Lafarga controls the local cement market.
