Jobless rate calculated for persons aged between 15 and 74 that don’t have a job but are willing to work and sought a job in the past month climbed in third quarter 2009 by 0.5% from Q2 to 6.8%, according to data provided by the statistics office.
Unemployment rate in Jul-Sep period calculated based on the international labor standards stood at 1.4% above year-ago levels.
The difference between unemployment rates for women and men was 1.7% (7.6% for men and 5.9% for women). Jobless rate in the rural areas stood at 5.2% and 8.2% in the urban areas.
Unemployment rate of young people aged 15-24 was the highest in all age groups, 22.3%. Active population exceeded 10.2 million persons in third quarter.
In third quarter last year, Romania’s economically active population was of 10.226 million persons, from 10.008 million in quarter earlier. 699,000 of them were registered as unemployed.
