The euro value of IKEA Romania sales in 2009 dropped 21.2% from €104.7 million a year earlier.
The number of visitors to IKEA store stood at 2.52 million in 2009, versus 10 million products sold.
Furniture items accounted for 60% of IKEA’s total sales in 2009, while accessories and decorations for 40%.
The best selling home furnishing items were the FAKTUM kitchen series with 31,580 items, POÄNG chairs with over 19,980 items, PAX wardrobe systems with 19,930 items sold, BILLY bookcase systems with 14,290 items.
The best selling home decorations and accessories have been the IKEA 365+ items (cookware) with over 198,890 units sold, SPARSAM low-energy bulbs – 156,420 items, MYSA and GOSA comforters and pillows - 138,620 items.
“Despite the decline in number of visitors and products sold, IKEA store in Bucharest remains a top three store in IKEA global network by sales in 2009. Consumers adopted a more cautious approach and were more budget-conscious in 2009, as a result of what we call a “crisis of confidence” in the stability of incomes under current economic conditions”, said Cornel Oprisan (photo), IKEA retail manager.
IKEA’s website recorded 257,000 unique visitors, and 9,800 of them downloaded the IKEA 3D home planning tool available online.
