The leu was edging up in the early trades against its European counterpart to 4.1020 units/euro, but fell steadily after 13:00 to 4.12 units/euro, after NBR pumped 628 million lei into the market.
The central bank set a reference rate of 4.1054 lei/euro, 0.05% below Friday level of 4.1073 lei/euro, in line with its peers in the region.
“The leu moved higher today in line with the region. The exchange rates hit a new low of 4.1020-4.1050 lei/euro, but the national currency is now trading near 4.12 units/euro,” a dealer told NewsIn.
The Polish zloty was gaining ground against euro in mid day trade, rising 0.10% to 3.9468 zloty/euro, while the Hungarian forint was steady at 269.63 units/euro.
For the US dollar, the central bank set a reference rate of 3.0163 lei/dollar, up 0.04% from Friday’s rate of 3.0151 lei/dollar.
