Alpha Bank, the third largest banking group in Greece said it didn’t plan to open new outlets in east-European markets in the next four years, including Romania, or make any major acquisition.
The bank’s main east-European markets are Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia.
The group will focus on improving existent assets, the management of the bank said Monday in a phone interview.
The Greek-based banking group posted pre-tax profit of €50.7 million in Romania, up 10.8% from 2008, as loan impairment charges rose two-fold.
Alpha Bank reported net profit of €349.8 million from its global operations, down 31.7% year-on-year.
