The new line will go into operation in mid 2011, and will have an annual production capacity of 2 million square meters. The manufacturing process will consists in bonding two or more pieces of glass between one or more pieces of plasticized polyvinyl butyric resin using heat and pressure.

“Our production platform was designed to serve the company’s businesses in the region (Romania and the Balkans). In our view, Romania’s growth potential and of the region has remained intact, and proof to the economic recession. Therefore, the development of this platform and the ongoing expansion of the product range we produce in Calarasi are just a matter of course. They are part of our commitment to Romania and to the regional market”, said Ovidiu Pascutiu, chief executive of Saint Gobain Glass Romania.

The new production line is the third largest component of the Saint-Gobain Glass production operations in Romania and comes after the €100 million investment in float glass unit that went into operation in February 2007, and after the €30 million investment in a state-of-the-art production line of metallic coatings solutions.

Saint Gobain Group operates in the most important industrial sectors: building materials, building materials distribution, home renovation, as well as glass packaging. Saint Gobain group is present in 54 countries across the globe and employs around 207,000. It has 15 R&D centers, hundreds of production and sales units of €42 million.
