On Wednesday, the central bank set a reference rate of 4.2234 lei/euro.

The leu increased versus its European counterpart on Thursday early trades, from 4.2242 to 4.2206 lei/euro, but fell afterwards to 4.2328 units/euro.

In the region, the currencies followed a similar trend against euro. The Polish zloty opened higher, from 4.0636 units/euro to 4.0579 but fell afterwards to 4.0972. The Hungarian forint opened at 279.83 units/euro and increased to 279.67, but fell in midday trading to 282.9 units/euro.

Versus the US dollar, the National Bank of Romania increased by 0.20% to 3.4437 lei/dollar from Wednesday rate of 3.4369 lei/dollar.
