How much do techies make? (I)Compared to spring this year, the compensation packages fell by €100-500, according to Ariadna Sutac (photo), recruitment manager at recruitment industry company, Brain Spotting.

If in the early 2009 the entry-level salary was within €500 – 800 range, now a recent graduate is being offered a pay package ranging between €400 and 700. For a tech expert with two-year experience, the compensation package may reach €1,200-2,200 versus €1,500-2,000 in spring. A middle manager and a top manager earn €400 less, although in case of a global company, the IT manager can claim a pay-packet as fat as €5,000, said Ariadna Sutac (photo).

However, a recent survey conducted by the online IT job site, Joob.ro earlier in summer showed that a tech worker take home €2,000 at the most. Thechies’ average wage, regardless to their place of residence, experience or position is €987.

According to Joobs.ro, the highest average monthly wage for IT jobs was in Bucharest - €1,074, followed by cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants - €999 and cities with 50,000-100,000 inhabitants - €649. Apart from Bucharest, Cluj and Iasi lead the rankings with the highest average compensation packages for techies – €1,000-1,100 a month.

How much do techies make? (II)According to industry recruiters, estimations on technology engineers’ salaries are purely informative, because the difference between small companies and corporations lies in the complexity of the projects techies are being assigned, and hence, the pay structure is commission-based, instead of fixed payment, but it also arises from the place of residence. But even these bonuses lose their glamour in a cash-strapped information technology company.

“As all the recent studies revealed, the merit pay packages offers to tech employees shrank among the majority of the companies. However, organizations tend to keep those benefits – such as medical services”, Sutac added.
