The words on everyone’s lips in the local tech retail industry in 2008 were “loss and stagnation”. Wall-Street identified the top ten tech retailers, by their 2008 profit and sales data posted on the website of the Ministry of Finance. Despite the narrow market-wide gain, the segment reached 238 million euros, 15 million euros more than a year earlier.

1. K Tech Ultra Pro

K Tech Electronics that holds Ultra Pro Computers – the store chain with the biggest sales in the local tech retail industry in 2007, and now dealing with an insolvency procedure – started to feel the impact of the crisis since 2008. Ultra Pro Computers accounts for a half of the company’s total sales, the remaining 50% being attributed to the online and distribution divisions.

The company’s turnover fell from 74.6 million euros in 2007 to 68.6 million in 2008. Moreover, the retailer’s profit dropped from 137,000 euros to minus 3.5 million euros. The headcount shrank from 633 in 2007 to 535 in 2008.
