Top 80 cars launched in crisis

Cristian Gubandru, 28 Sep 2009
Romanian version

The financial crisis that erupted in September last year has placed severe pressure on automotive suppliers and dealers and led to job losses, production slowdown, pushing car sales to rock-bottom levels. However, certain carmakers pressed the reload button and kept the engines up and running even in a hostile environment. Over 80 new car models came off the assembly line in the 12 months to September. Discounts range between €200 and €8,000.

Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo
The car manufacturer’s solution to the auto crisis was low-power, budget-friendly engine types, and in some cases the shift of some standard features as optional, in an effort to reduce the end-price of the car.

To keep sales and drivers’ interest up, car importers chopped prices for cars in stock or rolled out new models for which they put a similar price tag as for the old ones.

Autoitalia Group, importer of Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ssang Yong, Maserati and Segway in Romania, launched in May 2009 the new Alfa Romeo MiTo at a price ranging between €13,990 and 19,490.

Currently, the car maker cut price for the model by €200 to €13,790.
