The central bank last posted such a high rate on April 24.

BNR announced a benchmark exchange rate of 4.2181 lei per euro yesterday.

The leu waved between 4.2285 and 4.2365 versus the euro and at 1:35 p.m. banks bought the euro with 4.2290 lei and sold it for 4.2370 lei.

In the region, the Polish zloty went down from 4.5340 to 4.5690 against the euro and then shifted back to 4.54. The Hungarian forint depreciated from 280.90 to 283.05 units per euro.

The benchmark exchange rate also slipped to 3.0391 versus the American dollar, after the leu inched 0.16 percent on yesterday's level.
