Leu slumps to four-week high against euro

The benchmark exchange rate posted by the National Bank of Romania climbed 0.17 percent to 4.2246 lei per euro, the maximum level since July 23, following general decline in the region, as the single European currency strengthened, NewsIn informs.

NBR settled an exchange rate of 4.2173 lei per euro yesterday.

The euro lost ground versus the leu in the early trades, but then gained to 4.2250 lei. At 1:40 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.2240 lei and selling it for 4.2270 lei.

In the region, the zloty slipped from 4.165 to 4.18 versus the euro and the forint dropped from 271.8 to 274.5 over the European currency.

For the U.S. dollar, NBR’s exchange rate added 0.25 percent to 2.9951 lei per dollar, from yesterday's 2.9876.
