Romania’s home-building approvals stood at 3,562 in August this year, 23.2 percent below year-ago levels and up 3percent from a month earlier, according to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics.

In August this year, 1,405 fewer permits were issued for residential buildings, a decline that was reflected in all development areas. The most important development areas were Bucharest – Ilfov (-344 permits), North-West (-257 permits), North-East (-243 permits) and South-Muntenia (-194 permits).

August 2009 vs July 2009

In August this year, 4,562 home-building approvals were issued, 64.0% being for the rural area. According to the national statistics office, the number of home-building permits has increased in five development areas, North-East (+136 permits), South-Muntenia (+52), South-West Oltenia (+45), South-East (+33) and West (+32). In the remaining development areas, the building consent issuances has remained weak in August.

Jan-Aug 2009 vs Jan-Aug 2008

33,034 home-building approvals were issued year-to-date, 20.0% fewer compared to the same period of last year. The biggest declines were observed in Bucharest-Ilfov (-2,376 permits), South-Muntenia (-1,281), Center (-1,043) and North-East (-1,039).
