One in three Romanians will access news and information websites by using a mobile device in 2010. Currently, 22% Orange customers and 17.2% Vodafone subscribers are using these services, according to a Voxline Communication report.
“Cosmote, third largest telecom company in Romania hasn’t disclosed any data yet, but given that the integration of Zapp carrier is planned to end over the next six months, we expect a marked increase in the number of Romanians using the internet on a mobile handset, since the stakes of the Cosmote-Telemobil deal was the high-speed 3G Mobile Data”, said Dan Virtopeanu (photo), General Manager Voxline Communication.

The majority of users access the internet by using smartphones: Nokia – 57.01%, Sony Ericsson – 16.51%, Samsung – 12.41%, LG – 5.79% and Motorola – 2.99%. These are also the world’s best selling mobile phone brands, according to October 2009 traffic stats on Romanian users who accessed mobile websites within BuzzCity network.

Even if they are very popular, BlackBerry and Apple phones have a modest market share: 0.05% and 0.04% respectively, while Apple, RIM and Palm have a market share above 15%, according to MobileStats.ro. Mobile-specific sites tracked by MobileStats.ro recorded around 7.9 million views in October 2009, less than half of which by Romanian mobile internet users (3.3 million).
