The central bank set a reference rate of 4.1325 lei against euro, 0.17% lower than Friday’s rate of 4.1397 lei/euro.

“The leu rose in quiet trading today, in default of news to shake the market. Leu’s peers in the region followed the same pattern”, Ciprian Mihai, Head of Treasury Volksbank told NewsIn.

In the morning, the leu grew from 4.1440 to 4.1280 units/euro but fell afterwards to 4.1370 lei/euro and traded within a narrow band afterwards.

In the region, the euro lost against a basket of currencies today. The polish zloty increased from 4.10 to 4.07 units/euro, but weakened afterwards to 4.09 units/euro. The forint had a higher opening today, climbing from 274.40 to 273 forints/euro, and traded near that range afterwards.

For the US dollar, the National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 3.0160 lei/dollar, down 0.22% from Friday’s rate of 3.0228 lei/dollar.
