BCR's assets slip 2.4% in Q1, to LEI 62.97bn

The total assets of Romania's largest lender by assets Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), owned by the Austrian group Erste, lowered 2.4 percent to 62.97 billion lei at the end of March, from 64.53 billion lei at the end of last year, according to data published by the lender.

The loans granted to clients (before provisions) diminished 1.2 percent in the first quarter, to 45.97 billion lei, from 46.53 billion lei in the same period of 2009.

BCR granted credits through the Prima Casa governmental program worth more than 315 million euros, of which 136 million euros in 2010, according to the bank's representatives.

Lei credits represent 42.5 percent of BCR's portfolio, while the euro loans 55.2 percent and the ones in U.S. dollars 2.3 percent.

Deposits from clients eased 4 percent year-on-year, from 35.82 to 34.4 billion lei.

BCR continued to spread tentacles in the first trimester and opened four new units, reaching a 665 unit-network at the end of March. It also expanded the ATM network by 45 new units, to 2,188.
