President of EP: �EU supports Romania�s anti-crisis measures�

"I go with a strong message of solidarity for Romanian citizens. Romanians are facing economic hardship and a tough austerity plan is necessary. We need the reforms not only in Romania; the whole of the EU has to tighten its belt”, said Buzek prior to the visit in Romania scheduled for June 9.

“The efforts of Romanian authorities to curb the crisis are not easy, but necessary. The EU supports them”, the President of the European Parliament said, according to a press release sent by the institution. It takes “more transparency and coherence in the way we conduct economic policy. We need to build common economic policy to accompany the monetary union," the president of the European Parliament said.

Jerzy Buzek (photo) will be Wednesday in an official visit in Bucharest and will participate at the debate “Effects of economic-financial crisis. Efficiency and solidarity” that will take place at the Central University Library.

The president of the European Parliament, whose visit in Romania was initially scheduled for April was rescheduled after the death of the Polish president Lech Kaczynski, will the President of Romania Traian Basescu, the Speaker of the Senate Mircea Geoana, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Roberta Anastase and Prime Minister Emil Boc. He will also meet with the Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Baconschi.

President Buzek will address the joint plenary session of the two Chambers of the Romanian Parliament.

Former prime minister in Poland, Jerzy Buzek became the first President to hail from one of the EU's new Member States. At the European elections in June 7, 2009, Buzek was the first to break the popularity records for candidates in Poland.
