Profile: Gabriel Ionita: I wonder what was life like before the internet

The internet provides you the answer to almost all your questions. This is the motto that guides Gabriel Ionita, product& services development manager at Cosmote. Although he works in telecommunications, he admits to not being a big fan of face-to-face talks.

1. What gadget�s in your pocket, at hand?

I always take my cell phone everywhere I go. I also have a Bluetooth device and a memory stick. These are helpful gadgets in my day-to-day activities.

2. What was the first gadget you had? At what age?

Same as everybody, probably one of the first gadgets I had was a walkman, which was sent to me from the Netherlands, by my uncle.

During high school, I received an electronic game. Now that’s when I was the big man on campus.

3. What was the last IT acquisition?

The last acquisition is a 1TB External Storage Device.

4. What was the biggest failure in your tech career?

I had extremely unpleasant experiences when my first hard disk crashed, and I lost all the information and projects I’ve gathered over the years of hard work.

5. How much would you be willing to pay for a cell phone?

200-300 euro.

6. What features would your ideal phone have?

To be user-friendly, preferably with a touch screen, to have a camera, and to work properly even after it takes a whack.

7. What was the first cell phone you used?

Philips Spark, back in 1997.

8. What mobile phone manufacturer do you prefer?

Currently, I use a Sony Ericsson and a Nokia, but over time, I’ve used cell phones made by almost all known manufacturers.

An honest answer would be that I don’t prefer a certain phone brand, but only the one who makes a phone that meets my requirements.

9. Tech brand and manager?

GE and Jack Welch.

10. The useless gadget you found on sale?

I haven’t found that yet.

11. What gadget would you like to buy?

For the holders of Black or Platinum card, I would say Bank&Olufsen is a brand that manufactures gadgets with out of the ordinary designs and high quality.

12. What type of websites do you access regularly? What is your favorite website?

In my free time, I just go into the social networking sites, to stay in contact with my friends from Canada and from all over the world. As for work-related internet browsing, I am interested in almost any websites focused on tech, mobile telephony, and innovation. Considering my No1 hobby, hockey, I use internet to stay up to date with the results in North American hockey league.

13. What is the last acquisition made online?

A Stylus for Sony Ericsson P1i.

14. What is internet to you?

Some see it as a database, some say internet is a friend they cannot live without, and others blame it… I say internet is what provides you the answers to most of your questions. It is a simple instrument I have to use daily. Sometimes I wonder what was life like before the internet…
