Teambuilding, a profitable business for tourism companies

Perfect Tour, one of the tourism companies that organizes teambuilding events forecasts a doubling of turnover from 12 million euros in 2007 to 24 million euros in 2008, 20% share being geared by team-building activities.

“At this point, organizing teambuilding events is a profitable business. Growth of turnover is 100% annually. The profit is likely to climb to 8.9% per year. Corporate activities represent 20% of the turnover” said Sorin Vaduvoiu, deputy manager at Perfect Tour.

However, Vaduvoiu says the teambuilding market is not developed enough. “We cannot talk about a well-settled market yet. It’s a market that combines activities specific to outdoor and indoor teambuilding with events and conferences,” said Vaduvoiu.

As the business environment develops and companies set up territorial branches, supporting training activities with the networking and with the leisure activities has become emerging. “Every company needs something like that. For instance, a large company that manages several departments in the country combine tourism activities with work, analysis sessions, with activities on their agenda,” Vaduvoiu added.

Romanian teambuilding market features a high demand for indoor services – whether they are conferences, congresses, or other kind of business meetings, whether they are leisure activities such as seeing a theater play. Whereas outdoor services have a bigger share, the demand focusing on wall climbing, ATV races, mountain bike, paintball, rafting or diving.

Local market of teambuilding services will increase this year by 20-25% up to 250 million euros, according to Vaduvoiu.

Perfect Tour combines outdoor services with indoor services for a wide range of companies, starting from advertising environment up to banks and multinational companies. Packages for trips in the countries are on top of our clients’ demands, the most frequent destinations including resorts on Valea Prahovei, Brasov and Sibiu. For wealthier clients, trips abroad are the most sought-after option.

Leisure activities and congresses can be scheduled in Italy, Belgium, Germany, or other destinations near Romania.

“The most eccentric request was to transport 600 people by airplane in one day. It is hard because there is no such big airplane. After all, we succeeded. We transported them at a time, and convinced them to stay two nights there. For large groups, it is hard to get a location and transport. Especially considering that there are few hotels with so many rooms, and if they do have, they are already booked,” Vaduvoiu added.
