Skoda cuts production on weak demand

Czech carmaker, Skoda Auto, part of Volkswagen Group said on Tuesday it planned to cut production by yearend namely an output reduced by 31,000 units, in the context of ebbing demand.

After a first cut of production by 13,000 units announced early October, the Czech group decided to reduce production by another 18,000 cars, said Skoda’s spokesman, Jaroslav Cerny.

Skoda Auto plans on making 759,000 cars this year, from 2007’s 661,000 output. Revised downward, the production aims for 2009 are 10% up from 2007, AFP informs, quoted by NewsIn.

Skoda Auto group that plans on increasing workforce by 23,500 reported a net profit of 8.66 billion koruna (354 million euros) for first nine months this year, down 24.7% from 2007, mainly geared by the koruna’s appreciation.

The production cuts made public by Skoda occur in the context of South-Korean Hyundai Motor’s unveiling of the series production at its new factory in Nosovice, Czech. The company aims at producing 200,000 cars per year.
