Dacia idles factory for a month, and downsizes production capacity



Dacia decided to shut down the factory during December 11, 2008 – January 11, 2009 and will downsize production capacity by 20%, as of January 12, 2009.

Dacia’s production capacity will be reduced to 1,085 vehicles per day, from 1,360.

Under the provisions of collective agreement of Dacia, the workers who will take temporary layoff, will receive a redundancy payment of 85% of their gross pay package. They will also benefit of the meal vouchers for the days off in December, and of the Christmas bonus worth 450 lei.

The 620 limited time employment contract that will end in December 2008 will not be renewed.
Dacia revised downwards its investment budget plan for 2009 to 150 million euros from 250 million euros. However, Dacia will continue to develop and diversify its model array.

According to data provided by RCI Banque Roumanie, the number of acquisition contracts for Dacia vehicles in leasing system fell 59% in November 2008 from a year earlier, after October’s 22% fallout from a year ago.

Dacia reported sagging car sales by 13% in first ten months this year, down to 67,772 cars, from 77,991 in January-October interval in 2007.
