Autoliv idles production at the two factories in Romania until January 5

“We will temporarily shut down the two production facilities for the Christmas holidays, and the activity will be resumed on January 5. We planned to recruit another 300 persons to add to the existent 2,500 workers, whereas we relinquished these plans due to the sagging sales”, Ionel Fierbinteanu, manager of Autoliv Romania told Wall-Street.

Autoliv is actively involved in the Romanian market since 1997 and has factories of seatbelts, and inflation devices for airbag systems at Brasov.

Approximately 80% of the factories’ output is exported, mainly to European car makers (Volkswagen, Daimler-Chrysler) but also to US-based manufacturers (Ford).

On Romanian market, Autoliv delivered seatbelts for all Automobile Dacia’s trim levels and for Cielo model manufactured by Daewoo Automobile.

Automotive safety system producer opened an IT engineering center at Timisoara in 2006. The IT center is in charged with the design of electronic safety systems and serves the German subsidiary of Autoliv, the biggest clients being BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes and Opel.
