National currency closes session at 3.93/euro

National currency fell to the morning’s level, 3.93lei/euro, close to the session opening quotations, on a calm market, after a slight appreciation in early deals, in the context of a generalized trend in the region and arrival of Romanians working abroad for the winter holidays.

“The regional move and the income liquidities from Romanians workers from abroad who arrived in the country have been the factors that lifted the national currency against euro in the early deals. However, the market calmed and fluctuations have not been as broad as in the days before, not for leu, zloty or forint”, said Florin Constantinescu, dealer of Banca Comerciala Carpatica, NewsIn informs.

The national currency opened first session of the week at 3.9375 lei/euro, at slight depreciation margin from Friday night, and after a short-while appreciation below 3.9150 units/euro, the leu lost ground, sliding to 3.93 units/euro. At 16:40, the banks were buying euro at 3.9265 and selling it at 3.9315.

“The leu climbed in early transactions. We saw a larger foreign currency offer since Friday, same as in first deals of today’s session. It is probably entailed by the arrival of Romanians working abroad, but on the other hand, the emerging currencies in the region had a similar evolution”, said Ioan Birle, senior dealer at Banca Transilvania, NewsIn informs.

The national currency opened the first session of the week at 3.9375lei/euro, at slight depreciation from late Friday. At 10:30 a.m, the banks were buying a euro at 3.9110 at sell it at 3.9210 lei.

In the region, the other emerging currencies had a similar trend. Thus, the Polish zloty gained 6 units, from 4.12zloty/euro to 4.08 units/euro, while the forint increased to 262.30 units/euro from 265.50 units/euro.
