Kia Motors reports 8.4% growth in sales in 2008



Kia Motors Corporation recorded 8.4% global sale growth in 2008, with 1,375,758 cars sold.

In 2008, the biggest growths were registered in China, with 151,085 units, (+34.2%), and general markets with 262,166 units (+30.5%).

In the North Korean market, the carmaker registered 16.2% hike in sales (316,432 cars) against 2.3% decline in Europe and North America by 2.3% (335,138 units sold), and 8.6% (310,917 units) respectively.

In 2008, the best sold model in exports was Cerato for the third successive year with 192,149 units sold, followed by Rio, with 153,963 units.

The compact SUV, Sportage outcompeted cee’d in the race for the third position by wide margin, with 149,846 units sold, versus 148,846 units. Picanto ranks fifth, with 91,262 units sold.

In 2008, car sales equated 63% of overall Kia cars sold, namely 11.7% growth from previous year.
