Founder of HBO Romania, takes up CEO duties of Kanal D



Pavel Stancev has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Kanal D Romania, effective as of February 1, 2009.

The official announcement was made by Begum Dogan, chairwoman and vice president of Dogan Media Group.

Pavel Stanchev (photo), aged 42, was born in Sofia and graduated journalism in Paris. In the last 16 years, he has held various executive positions at some of the largest media companies in the world: Ringier, Time Warner, RTL Group.

Between 1997 and 2002, he founded and served as general manager of the TV channel HBO Romania, then was CEO RTL Televizia in Croatia. In the last 4 years, Stanchev was CEO of Nove TV in Bulgaria, which was part of Antenna Greece. Under his management, Nova TV became the second most watched TV station and most profitable media in Bulgaria.

Launched in 2007, Kanal D is a national general entertainement TV station offering a mix of series, feature films, entertainment shows, reality shows and news. In January 2009 Kanal D Romania was ranked third (all day, 18-49 urban, source GfK) among all TV channels in Romania.
