Leu rallies in the third successive session

The reference exchange rate posted by the central bank BNR today pins the leu at 4.2522 against the single European currency, an increase for the fourth day in a row, NewsIn informs.

Yesterday’s benchmark currency exchange rate indicated a level of 4.2872 over the euro, while two days ago it stood at 4.2954.

The highest peak the exchange rate climbed this year was on January 22 when a leu was pinned at 4.3127 euros.

At 10:50 a.m., banks were buying an euro for 4.2123 lei and selling it for 4.2223 lei.

“The regional trend started yesterday. There are no positive economic indicators in the area, so the reason could be profit cash-ins,” declared Ioan Birle, chief dealer with Banca Transilvania.

The Hungarian forint moved form 293 to 289.2 per euro, an evolution replicated by the Polish zloty, which grew from 4.61 to 4.556 per euro.
