The leu hikes to 4.23 versus the euro at the end of the day

Romania’s national currency, the leu, closed the day at 4.23 over the single European currency in line with the emerging currencies in the region, on higher sales of foreign currency, NewsIn informs.

The leu started the day at 4.23 over the euro and after 10:00 the exchange rate started to fall. After 16:50, banks were buying the euro for 4.2282 and selling it for 4.2382 lei.

“All emerging currencies in the region showed signs of appreciation,” senior dealer with Banca Transilvania, Ioan Birle, said.

Also, the reference exchange rate posted by the central bank today pins the leu at 4.2450 against the euro and at 3.2187 over the American dollar.

The euro traded at 4.2450 against the leu and then the exchange rate rose to 4.2610. At 10:10 banks were buying the euro for 4.2590 and selling it for 4.2690 lei.

“The market is pretty quiet now and the leu stayed at the same level as last week,” dealer with Banca Transilvania, Florin Bota told NewsIn.
