Leu hikes 0.7% at BNR's exchange rate

Romania's national currency, the leu, rose to 4.2637 versus the single European currency according to the reference exchange rate established by the central lender BNR, following a regional trend after several days of decline, NewsIn informs.

This morning's early trades picked up the leu's climbing trend initiated yesterday, moving slightly over 4.25 per euro on a regional wave triggered by the Polish market, NewsIn informs.

At 10:35 a.m., the euro stood at 4.2530-4.2590 lei versus the 4.28 lei recorded at the beginning of the session.

“There may be profit cash-ins. The Polish central bank may have sold foreign currency, which influenced all the other markets. Our leu cannot however rise too much,” declared Florin Constantinescu, dealer with Banca Comerciala Carpatica.

The Polish zloty rose from 4.78 to just below 4.7 versus the euro and the Hungarian forint inched up from 302.9 to below 300 per euro.
