Exchange rate slumps for the third successive session. Insiders suspect the intervention of BNR



Romanian national currency decreased for the third session in a row by 0.18 percent, the reference exchange rate standing at 4.2896 lei per euro, while dealers suspect the central bank BNR to have limited the leu's descent below 4.30 per euro at noon, NewsIn informs.

The reference exchange rate posted on February 27 was of 4.2909 lei per euro.

The rate climbed today at opening bell to a maximum of 4.3158 lei per euro but at 13:20 banks were buying a euro for 4.2989 lei and selling it for 4.3101 lei.

The Polish zloty slipped from 4.6970 to 4.7845 versus the euro and after noon stood at 4.7630. Similarly, the Hungarian forint lost ground this morning from 302.85 to 307.50 per euro and returned to 307.32.

The leu decreased by 0.87 percent in front of the U.S. dollar from the 3.3851 registered on February 27 to 3.4147.
