Romanian leu slides to 4.2939 against euro at the reference exchange rate



Romania's leu lowered 0.08 percent versus the single European currency at the reference exchange rate established by the central lender BNR at 4.2939, on a quiet market, in line with the evolution of other currencies in the region, where speculations continued to depreciate the emergent currencies, NewsIn informs.

BNR posted a reference exchange rate of 4.2903 lei per euro in the previous session.

The national currency climbed from 4.2950 to 4.2770 per euro in early morning trades but then dipped to 4.29, replicating the regional trend.

At 11:00 a.m., banks were buying an euro for 4.2850 and selling it for 4.2950 lei.

In the region, the Polish zloty climbed from 4.7470 to 4.6540 versus the euro and then stabilized at 4.74, while the Hungarian forint plummeted from 306 to 312.26 and inched to 311.18 afterwards.

BNR reference rate also indicates a 0.57 percent decline of the national currency against the U.S. dollar, to 3.4037 lei per dollar.

On international markets, the American currency stepped up from 1.2727 to 1.2573 over the euro and at 1:40 p.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.2583 dollars.
