Third highest inflation in EU
Annual inflation rate recorded by Romania in February 2009, of 6.9% exceeded fourfold the average of the European Union, Romanian taking up third position on highest annual inflation rate, according to the statistics provided by Eurostat.
In the second month this year, EU’s Member States with the highest inflation rates were Latvia, (9.4%), Lithuania (8.5%) and Romania (6.9%), according to the statistical office of the European Union.
However, the lowest annual inflation rates in February were recorded in Ireland (0.1%), Portugal (0.1%) and Cyprus (0.6%).
The annual inflation slowed down in February, from 1.8% in January, to 1.7% , while the annual inflation in euro area widened to 1.2% from 1.1% in January.
