Billa Romania maps out expansion amid economic downturn



Billa Romania, the unit of the German-based retailer Rewe, reported a net turnover of 320 million lei for 2008, up 10 percent on the previous year, NewsIn informs.
The retailer announced it would move into the local market with minimum ten new units this year and plans to acquire other units offered for sale.
Billa Romania ‘s workforce counted 2,800 last year, as the number of clients rose by 10 percent.

The retailer currently has 34 stores across the country and has been present on the Romanian market since 1999.

Rewe group operates in Romania through the Billa, Penny, XXL and Selgros divisions. Its main competitors are Carrefour, Kaufland, Metro Cash&Carry, Cora and XXL Mega Discount.
