Basescu: We will call upon funding from EIB for banks

Romanian president Traian Basescu is heading to Luxembourg to ask for financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for banks which will then support small and medium-sized companies and also to tackle the speed-up of infrastructure programs, NewsIn informs.
The president said this morning at the Henri Coanda main airport near Bucharest, before the flight took off, that another issue would be discussed, the 80 percent government guarantee for the loans granted by EIB to automakers Ford and Renault to protect investments in Romania.

The president will then attend the European People’s Party summit in Brussels and the spring European Council. The agenda of the spring meeting of the council includes assessment of economic issues, financing in the European Union, power security and weather changes.

The president will be accompanied by the finance minister Gheorghe Pogea and foreign affairs minister Cristian Diaconescu.
