Currency exchange rate drops to seven-week low



Romania’s national currency, the leu, climbed to 4.2484 against the euro at the central bank’s reference exchange rate, the highest peak of the past seven weeks, NewsIn informs.
The leu is afloat on a wave of optimism generated by the recent agreement for a 20 billion euro external loan to enhance the Romanian economy. Yesterday, the central bank had the leu at 4.2723 over the euro.

The leu started out at 4.24-4.2450 against the euro and then began to lose ground to 4.25. At 10:40 a.m. the euro traded at 4.2510-4.2560 lei.
