Staer International halves imports, boosts production



Furniture retailer Staer International said it planned to cut imports in 2009 to half, and to boost production at its furniture facility in Galati, as the marketing manager of the company, Claudiu Buduruta announced.
Last year, Staer posted a turnover of 98.7 mln lei (26.8 mln euros), down 12% from 101.6 mln lei (30.44 mln euros).

“This year we plan on boosting production at Galati-based facility. By yearend, the own products are expected to account for 85% of the company’s portfolio”, said Claudiu Buduruta.

Thus, the company will import in 2009 from Germany, Denmark, Malaysia, China or Greece nearly 15% of products, down 50% from a year earlier.

In February this year, Staer opened a new showroom in Brasov that covers approximately 4,000 square meters, By end-2009, the retailer said it would open four more branches in Braila, Targu Mures, Bacau and Focsani. The total investment is expected to top 2 mln euros.
