Leu falls slightly against the euro at the reference exchange rate



Romania's central lender BNR posted a reference exchange rate of 4.2380 lei per euro, 0.04 percent lower than in the previous session, after the leu strengthened in the first part of the day on a slightly volatile market, in line with other emerging currencies in the region, NewsIn informs.
BNR announced a reference exchange rate of 4.2396 lei per euro yesterday.

The leu appreciated in today's first transactions from 4.2530 to close to 4.23 versus the euro but the exchange rate began to rise after noon. At 1:10 p.m. banks bought the euro with 4.2360 and sold it for 4.2460 lei.

Emerging currencies in the region posted a similar evolution. The Polish zloty initially gained from 4.51 to 4.4630 against the euro but then depreciated to 4.4960. The Hungarian forint strengthened from 299.20 to 295.65 units per euro but lost ground to 296.8.

The reference exchange rate also showed a 1.19 percent appreciation of the leu to 3.2055 versus the American dollar.
