Citroen Romania to launch used car operations next year



Citroen Romania, the importer of French car brand will enter the used car business next year, as the second-hand car market is currently on ice, CEO of Citroen Romania, Didier Gerard told Wall-Street, at the official launch of the new Citroen C3 Picasso.
“Now it is not the best time to start operations on the used car market, as it is currently blocked. Our plan however is to start next year”, Gerard stated.

The company projected a 2% market share this year. “In first quarter we occupied 2% of the market, same as last year, and our target is to stay in the range of 2% of the market estimated at 170,000 cars”, Gerard added.

Citroen Romania’s sales volume stood at 4,000 units in 2008 with utility vehicles and cars absorbed an accumulated share of 1.21%.

As for the car park renewal program, Citroen representative said “it didn’t return the expected results, I think the Jalopy program is efficacious for cars at 6,000 euros. We have no plans in selling this type of cars”.

Citroen Romania will open new showrooms this year, in Cluj Napoca and other cities.

The company will launch new models by yearend by shipping in Romania DS 3, DS 4 and DS 5 array.

Citroen delivered recently the new C3 Picasso model, now available at a starting price of 11,900 euros with VAT.

The sales target for Citroen C3 Picasso is of around 150 cars this year. “The advantage of this model is that it belongs to a single-player segment, it is highly different from other cars”, said the representative of the company.

C3 Picasso mini-van is manufactured at the plant in Trnava, Slovakia, in 110,000 units per year. The model measures 4.08 meters in length, 1.73 meters width and 1.62 meters height.
