Benchmark exchange rates edges down in tune with the regional trend



Romania's leu advanced in tune with the regional currencies in the first part of the day. The central bank NBR posted a benchmark exchange rate of 4.1835 lei per euro, up 0.33 percent over the previous session, but the national currency started to slip around noon, as investors cashed profits, NewsIn informs.
BNR indicated a benchmark exchange rate of 4.1974 lei per euro yesterday.

The exchange rate floated near 4.17 and 4.18 lei per euro on opening, after the Hungarian forint and the Polish zloty gained ground versus the euro. The leu started to drop around noon and reached 4.1855 and at 1:40 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.1830 lei and selling it for 4.1870 lei.

The zloty initially climbed from 4.39 to 4.3650 over the euro, but fell back to 4.3980, while the forint inched from 289 to 287 versus the single European currency and slipped to 289.45 afterwards.

BNR's reference exchange rate shows a 0.77 percent advance of the national currency versus the U.S. dollar to 3.1447 lei per dollar, from 3.1692 in the previous session.
