Leu loses ground against euro



Romania's national currency, the leu, continued to lose ground over the euro in line with the regional currencies, and the reference exchange rate settled by the central lender BNR added 0.43 percent to 4.1560 lei per euro, NewsIn informs.
BNR posted a reference exchange rate of 4.1380 lei per euro in the previous session.

The national currency was traded for 4.1275 lei per euro on opening and then fell constantly to 4.16. The euro stood near 4.16 - 4.1650 lei at 1:35 p.m.

The regional currencies also depreciated against the single European currency today. The Polish zloty plummeted from 4.3345 to 4.3775 over the euro, while the Hungarian forint plunged from 276 to 279.60 versus the euro.

BNR's reference exchange rate also indicates a 0.96 percent climb of the national currency versus the U.S. dollar to 3.0589 lei per dollar, from 3.0886 in the previous session. The leu last reached such a high level over the American currency on January 8, when BNR established a reference exchange rate of 3.0468 lei per dollar.
