Leu loses over 0.76% against euro at the benchmark exchange rate

Romania's leu slipped this morning on regional trend and then settled close to 4.19 against the euro, the central bank (BNR) posting a reference exchange rate of 4.1891 lei per euro, slightly higher than the one indicated yesterday, NewsIn informs.
BNR published yesterday a reference exchange rate of 4.1574 lei per euro.

The national currency began the day at 4.1730 versus the euro, tumbled to 4.1950 and after 10 a.m. dropped anchor close to 4.19 per euro. At 1:30 p.m. banks were buying an euro for 4.1885 lei and selling it for 4.1905 lei.

“The downturn assumed by the leu and more abruptly by neighboring currencies was inflicted by the negative news concerning the economy of the United States, which influenced the movements of bourses and emergent currencies,” explained Ioan Birle, chief dealer with Banca Transilvania.
