Leu loses ground against euro



The benchmark exchange rate set by the central bank BNR stepped up 0.23 percent to 4.1724 lei per euro today, after the national currency depreciated since the early trades, just like the Polish zloty and the Hungarian forint, which also lost ground versus the single European currency, NewsIn informs.
BNR posted a benchmark exchange rate of 4.1630 lei per euro yesterday.

The leu dropped from 4.1525 to 4.1756 over the euro this morning, but recovered afternoon. Banks were buying a euro with 4.1640 lei and selling it for 4.1725 lei at 1:35 p.m.

In the region, the zloty plummeted from 4.3410 to 4.4071 over the euro and then inched to 4.39, while the forint fell gradually from 275.25 to 278.70 versus the European currency.

BNR's reference exchange rate also indicates a 0.9 percent climb of the national currency versus the American dollar to 3.0247 lei per dollar, from 3.0521 in the previous session.
