Currency exchange rate goes up in mid session
The benchmark exchange rate posted today by the NBR upped 0.21 percent to 4.1811 lei per euro after the constant depreciation of the Romanian currency in line with the region, affected by a global wave of bad news.
BNR announced a benchmark exchange rate of 4.1725 lei per euro yesterday.
“All emerging currencies in the region depreciated today due to increasing risk aversion of investors caused by the negative news of nuclear tests in North Korea and below expectation results registered by West European economies, especially Germany,” a banking dealer told NewsIn.
The leu decreased steadily in early trades by 0.35 percent to 4.1846 against the euro then inched towards 4.1750. At 1:30 p.m. banks bought the euro with 4.1785 lei and sold it for 4.1815 lei.
In the region, the Hungarian forint lost 1.11 percent from 279.89 to 283.01 per euro and after noon it climbed to 282. The Polish zloty slipped 1.09 percent from 4.3955 to 4.4435 units per euro and then rose to 4.43.
The leu also fell 0.89 percent to 3.0115 versus the American dollar at the reference exchange rate, from yesterday's 2.9849, a low of the past four months and a half.
