Currency exchange rate edges up



The benchmark exchange rate of the central bank pinned the leu at 4.1830 over the single European currency after a decline in early trades, in tune with the regional currencies.
The benchmark exchange rate had the leu at 4.1811 over the euro yesterday. The leu lost ground under the pressure of regional slump, a banking dealer told NewsIn.

The leu dropped 0.24 percent from 4.1750 to 4.1850 over the euro and in the afternoon it appreciated back to 4.18. At 1:35 p.m. banks were buying the euro for 4.18 and selling it for 4.1850 lei.

In the region the Hungarian forint slipped 0.81 percent from 280.20 to 282.47 and the Polish zloty cheapened 0.83 percent from 4.4045 to 4.4410 versus the euro.
