Banca Italo-Romena books 7.7 mln-euro profit in first quarter



Banca Italo-Romena, the local subsidiary of Italian-based Veneto Banca posted net profit of 7.72 million euro in first quarter this year, up 29.9% from prior-year period.
Last year, the bank recorded after-tax profit of 20 million euros, roughly double from 2007. In 2008, the growth of net profit was 96%, and this year, Banca Italo-Romena continued to record an increase in net profit in first quarter this year.

In the three months to March, Banca Italo-Romena continued to develop its lending activity, both to population and to small businesses, its loan book standing at 942.18 million euros in March, up 25% from 751.99 million euros a year earlier.

The performing lending activity came with a thorough risk assessment, which resulted in a below 1% share of non-performing loans.

After first quarter this year, Banca Italo-Romena recorded a nearly 13% increase in total assets, up to 1,191.64 million euros.
